DAVID LA POUR
Originally from Racine Wisconsin, David played on golf teams for North Carolina (UNC-A) and Florida (F.I.T. 1987) before
giving up his amateur status and becoming a golf professional in 1987.
While competing in Florida mini tours, he worked as an assistant golf professional at Boca Lago Country Club
in Boca Raton, Florida. In 1988, he became an assistant professional, studying under Peter Kostis at Broken Sound Club in Boca Raton.
David gained membership into the PGA of America in 1991. After eight years as a club professional, he
started working for the Dave Pelz Short Game School at the Boca Raton Hotel Resort & Club in 1996. During his
tenure with Dave Pelz, David appeared on The Golf Channel six times, as well as ESPN, and has worked with tour
players such as Bill Glasson, K.J. Choi, Ty Tryon, John Harris, Miguel Angel Martin, David Lundstrom, Mike Sullivan,
Tom Shaw, Wayne Mc Donald, and Melissa Mc Namara.
In 2003, David left his Lead Instructor position with Dave Pelz and became the Director of Instruction for
WP Golf Operations' five properties in Minnesota, where he created the WP Golf Institute (2003-2008).
He was nominated for national PGA of America teacher of the year (2001), was recognized as
one of "Americas Top Golf Instructors" 2002-2003 by the Consumer Research Council of America, and was
named as one of the Top Teaching Professionals in Minnesota 2005-2008 by Golf Digest Magazine.
In 2008, David accepted the position of Director of Instruction for Colleton River Plantation Club in Bluffton,
South Carolina. He resides with his family in Bluffton, South Carolina. |
