Summer 2009
Hello golfers!
It has been a year since I’ve moved to Colleton River Plantation Club in Bluffton, South Carolina as Director of Instruction for the Colleton River Golf Academy, and I thought this would be a good time to update everyone on what’s been happening with me. It has been a very busy year at Colleton River, with the introduction of the Golf Academy as a primary focus for the membership and golf professionals. I enjoy the opportunity to work at a world class residential golf community along with a membership and staff that are committed to continuing the traditions of golf while improving their golf games. The Nicklaus and Dye golf courses here are spectacular, with tour players regularly stopping by to play, especially during Heritage week in April. The practice facilities match the courses, and are a great place to work on all facets of your game nearly year round.
Summertime is the slow time of year here in the Lowcountry, so I will be taking advantage of this quieter time to come back to Minnesota to visit family, friends, and of course, students. I will be in Oakdale from July 10th to July 18th, conducting a golf school and teaching at Oak Marsh Golf Club. See below for more details. In the meantime, check out my website for new video tips from Colleton River, magazine articles, and the latest happenings at DLP Golf.
Sincerely,
David La Pour
Golf Instruction Schedule-July 10th-18th at Oak Marsh Golf Club
I will be teaching at Oak Marsh Golf Club in Oakdale, MN from July 10th to the 18th. My hours at that time will be from 9 am to 6 pm. I am bringing the JC-Video system that I taught with for five years at WP Golf Properties. There are over 2,300 golf swings in the computer, so if you want to compare your old golf swing to the new one or simply review some of the things we worked on in the past, call Oak Marsh at 651-730-8886 to book a lesson or e-mail me at dl@dlpgolf.com. My rates are $100/hr. I will also be teaching a two-day WP Golf Institute Golf School July 10th & 11th, and a one-day Short Game school July 17th with Oak Marsh Teaching Professional Daryl Smoliak. These golf schools run from 9 am to 4 pm and are a great way to tune up and review the fundamentals of putting, short game, and full swing. Please send me an email to sign up for the golf schools.
Golf Instruction
Hitting the ball farther involves club head speed. Tests have shown that for every mph the club travels, the ball goes roughly 2.5 yards. If your driver speed is 100 mph and the ball is hit on or near the sweet spot of the club, the ball will go 250 yards. If you’d like to check your club head speed while I am at Oak Marsh, feel free to ask and I will check it for you. Between physical strength, technique, and equipment, you may be able to break through and hit it the way you’ve always wanted!
Callaway Staff Member
This year I joined Callaway Golf as a Professional Staff member. After eight months of research and trying different companies, I was convinced that Callaway’s product, professionalism, and dedication to supporting and growing the game of golf was in line with my vision. Callaway’s product line is second to none in the market place and they continue to be aggressive in their research and development. What’s in my bag? FT-9 9.5 driver, FT 13 degree 3-wood, FT 18 degree hybrid, X-Forged irons 4-PW, X Tour Grind 52, 56, 60 degree wedges, F-7 two ball putter (32 inches) and the Tour i ball. I also have a UPro GPS which provides state of the art golf course information. It really does help to have good equipment.
